About ALA

Welcome to the Association for Laboratory Automation

Mission: To advance science and education related to laboratory automation by encouraging the study, advancing the science, and improving the practice of medical and laboratory automation.

ALA is the only international organization devoted exclusively to the unique professional specialty known as laboratory automation. As such, ALA serves academic, commercial and government researchers, scientists and engineers from around the world who conduct research and develop new technologies to increase productivity, elevate experimental data quality, reduce lab process cycle times, or enable experimentation that otherwise would be impossible.

Primary industries served include drug discovery and development; clinical molecular diagnostics; food and agriculture; forensics and security; and energy, commodity chemicals and polymers.

ALA presents one major conference (LabAutomation) in January of each year, and publishes a highly regarded scientific journal (JALA) six times annually. In addition, ALA actively partners with other related associations to share and exchange short courses and other education programs.

Other membership programs and benefits include individual and corporate membership directories, monthly e-newsletters, The Lab Man Blog, online news and reference materials, and an active career program for job seekers and employers. ALA was founded in 1996.
